If you have driven the Kohala mountain road between Waimea and Hawi on the Big Island of Hawaii, you may share an appreciation for two of my favorite trees. Nestled in a valley, there are two twin trees growing side by side, branches and roots intertwined. Often times, horses will be basking in their shade and sometimes cows will be resting among them. While I have no photo to show you, I can share with you my love for these trees. They greet me coming and going and the feeling is always the same, one of awe and gratitude. If you haven’t sat under a tree lately, perhaps you are overdue? Here are just a few of the many benefits of trees.
There is so much more to learn and to know about trees like some never grow old and others don’t have a growth cap. Intriguing and majestic, we are only beginning to understand the true depth of trees; some can grow roots that extend a few hundred feet in to the Earth while others will embed only in the topsoil.
I hope you are inspired by nature and by trees. I am excited to plant more trees. We have been wanting more food. There is no time like the present to plant a tree. The benefits are far reaching and the rewards are many. I hope to sit with you one day under a tree. It is a peaceful place to BE.
