Before the development of language, humans likely used telepathy as the primary means of communication. Like many animals, up to about 5,000 years ago, humans relied on a balance between the two hemispheres of the brain, the right temporal lobe and the left temporal lobe to communicate and perform cognitive tasks. Largely utilizing the left temporal lobe today, the right temporal lobe has significantly atrophied over the centuries. While the left temporal lobe is the more analytical and verbal side, the right temporal lobe is credited with being the creative side of the brain, responsible for intuition and is more visual. It may be exercised and activated through meditation, prayer, breath work, by listening to emotionally moving music and is at the hub of most spiritual and/or near death experiences.
