Did you know that only 1% of your genes come from your DNA?
While your DNA indicates a potential of your genes (what could happen), your DNA does not control the expression of your genes or what is happening. Dr. T. Colin Campbell’s research on nutritional science has well demonstrated this showing that certain foods can literally turn off and on the genes that promote or inhibit cancer growth.
Imagine that 99% of your genes are controlled by your gut. This means the food you nourish your body with are constantly influencing the micro-organisms in your gut
which control your RNA representing how your genes actually express themselves
in the present moment. Your gut’s internal environment or
eco-system is continually changing based upon the foods you eat.
If the micro-organisms in the gut are unbalanced, the result is symptoms of dis-ease, such as lethargy, depression, sleep disturbances, diminished immune function, allergies, auto-immune conditions and most serious chronic illnesses are influenced by the gut. If, on the other hand, the micro-organisms of the gut are balanced, with the bad genes literally turned off, genes are expressed in a positive fashion, resulting in good health. Balancing the micro-organisms in the gut changes the gene expression which changes health.
While you cannot change your genes, you have more power than you think when it comes to controlling the expression of your genes. All the more reason to pay attention to how your food makes you feel one to three hours after you eat it, even in to the next morning. If you feel anything other than good after eating, you might choose to eliminate those foods you identify as problematic and replace them with anti-inflammatory alternatives. In this way, you literally change your gut’s internal ecosystem which directly affects your well being.
Most people can identify their problem foods without giving it much thought; sometimes these foods are favorites yet they yield indigestion, allergies, fatigue, joint pain, irritability and other unpleasant feelings after consumption. The gut’s internal environment is continually in flux responding to what you choose to put in it and what you choose not to. The body, with its innate ability to heal itself, will always move towards health in the absence of obstacles to healing. Let your body’s wisdom go to work for you as you make better choices to support it’s own intelligence that allows you to breathe without thinking or that controls your heart rate, blood pressure, swallowing, your digestion and even blinking. Your body has grown from an infant to an adult and through every stage in between. It has been working for you and is continually working for you even when some of its systems begin to fail. By changing your choices, you may
be surprised how well your body may respond to your changes.
In many instances, the desire for the previously favored foods disappear in exchange for
a better way of feeling, a better way of living, a better life.
