Hawayo Takata, who brought Reiki to the western hemisphere via Hawaii, was known to ‘light up’ a room with her easy presence. One of her secrets to her tangible high vibration was a diet loaded with fresh fruits and vegetables. She sipped on a blended beet juice drink throughout her every day and was known to make monster salads. Hawayo believed that nutrition is a foundation for health.
Hawayo’s Daily Juice Blend
1 grapefruit
2 small beets
2 handfuls of cut cabbage
1 1/2 cups water
4 T raw blanched almonds
4 T raw sunflower seeds
Blend until smooth. Add water to desired consistency. Hawayo diluted the blend with as much as one and half gallons of water to flush her system throughout her day. As a side note, misrepresented as health foods, she added lecithin and yeast.
Hawayo’s Monster Salad
1 small cabbage (finely cut or shredded)
2 – 3 beets (grated)
4 stocks of organic celery (diced)
1 small head of cauliflower (chopped)
1 apple (sliced or chopped)
While Hawayo used an apple to sweeten the salad, you might find it more enjoyable with a dressing. One of my personal favorites is a cashew orange dressing inspired by Dr. Graham.
Orange Cashew Salad Dressing
1 ounce raw cashews
4 ounces fresh squeezed orange, tangerine or tangelo juice
orange rind garnish – optional
Blend using a food processor or Vitamixer. Add more cashews or fruit until it reaches your desired consistency, more cashews for a thick creamy dressing, more fruit for a lighter dressing. (I add the whole fruit rather than juicing it first.)
