For those that are mothers
and for all of us who have mothers,
Mother’s Day is a time to
celebrate life.
By whatever name you know her, mom, mommy, mama, mother or something else altogether, she is that special person that gave you the gift of life. While a mother feels unconditional love for her child, not everyone is so fortunate to know their mother or to embrace their mother ‘s love. While the nature of a mom is abundant unrestricted love, sometimes circumstances interfere with Nature’s way. If you have been one of the less fortunate, may today be a day to reflect upon anyone who has been supportive or encouraging to you at any time of your life; for these are the angels of the Earth. Who has been a listening ear, who has believed in you, who has accepted you and loved you in spite of yourself?
I am one of the more fortunate to have a loving mother who birthed me and a mentor who was like a second mom, who encouraged me every step of the way. While both recently transitioned, I am better off for being loved than never having known that love at all. My mom shared with me her wisdom and taught me many lessons. Here are some of the insights I gained from my mom:
Never have expectations and you will never be disappointed.
Never look back; forgive yourself and move on.
Life is short; make the most of every day.
Always live within your means.
Save for your future.
Be on time.
Be honest.
Always pay cash.
Treat people equally.
Take care of your body.
Don’t worry; things always work out.
Never save anything for good; enjoy it now.
You are good at anything you set your mind to.
My mother taught me a lot of lessons, not all of them easy, yet all of them essential. If you are one of the lucky ones like me, may you reflect on the lessons learned and the wisdom you have gained from your mom. Wherever you mom is and whatever your relationship, may she know in her heart that you recognize the good that has come to your life because of her.
If your relationship with your mom is not what you hoped it would be, may you use it as a reason to rise above the pain and become the best person you can be, to give the unconditional love to others you deserve and desire for yourself. No matter the relationship, a mother wants her child to be at peace and to be free. The spirit of Mother’s Day is to share our love for those that are dear and to mother ourselves if we need it. You might nurture yourself with a bouquet of flowers or treat yourself to a day at the beach or a walk in the park. However you honor this special day, may you be especially blessed and may your mom feel your love of life wherever she is. Given the gift of life; living the best life you can is a legacy you can give yourself, your mom and the world.
Happy Mother’s Day
