Have you ever thought about what it truly means
to appreciate or to be appreciated?
When we refer to numbers and say the amount has appreciated,
most of us understands it means the amount has risen or increased.
What does it mean then when we appreciate someone and tell them so?
Could appreciation foster growth, expansion and encouragement?
The answer is a resounding ‘YES.” Whatever we appreciate will indeed grow and flourish. Think of appreciation as gratitude. When we simply say ‘thank you’, we are appreciating someone, encouraging them
to engage in more of a similar positive behavior.
Through appreciation, we positively reinforce acts of kindness.
Imagine doing a nice deed for someone and being appreciated for your thoughtfulness, your time and effort. Now imagine doing the same nice deed and receiving no acknowledgment whatsoever, ever, no matter your efforts. Would you feel appreciated by the latter or more likely depreciated instead? Cultivating a relationship based upon appreciation earns trust, the foundation for friendship, one of the best measures of wealth.
A simple ‘thank you’ costs nothing and yields riches.
Have you ever felt over-appreciated? Likely not, yet, most have felt the pain of not being appreciated, of being under valued. Today, take a moment to truly appreciate someone, whether its paying a compliment to a stranger, thanking a friend for being in your life, or offering a helping hand. Observe how powerful your actions are as you exercise appreciation on a daily basis.
Like a muscle that grows, the more you appreciate, the more you will have to appreciate.
