CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a light touch approach that often facilitates improved overall health and performance by releasing body tension to relieve pain and bodily dysfunction. Developed by Dr. John E. Upledger, an osteopathic physician who was a professor of biomechanics at the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University and featured in TIME magazine as one of America’s next wave of innovators, Dr. Upledger founded The Upledger Institute in 1985 teaching CranioSacral Therapy techniques to people worldwide.
The craniosacral system is comprised of the soft tissues and fluid that protect your brain and spinal cord extending from the skull or cranium to the tailbone or sacrum impacting your central nervous system. Every day your body endures and absorbs stress. Over time, the build up of tension often results in tightening of tissues that potentially affect the brain and spinal cord and can compromise the function of the central nervous system which has the potential to impact the performance of nearly every other system in the body. CranioSacral Therapy releases those tensions to allow the entire body to self correct. With a gentle touch, providers are able to evaluate the client’s internal environment and then release any restrictions they find by using very gentle and distinctive techniques. By freeing the central nervous system to perform at its optimum, CranioSacral Therapy helps relieve a full spectrum of pain and dysfunction naturally eliminating stress and tension, strengthening resistance to disease and enhancing health and well being.
