Reiki for Animals

Love Has No Limits

Just as humans have an energy system so do all living organisms. Animals are no exception. All animals, whether wild or domesticated, innately recognize Reiki’s ability to heal. Reiki may be shared with any animal, regardless of the species. We have worked with the furred, the feathered, and the finned. Just as in healing with people, Reiki heals at all levels of an animal’s being and may be used for essentially any issue that arises for animals.

Just in the same way that people often feel feelings of peace and relaxation during a Reiki treatment, the same is true for animals. Reiki may also be experienced as a feeling of warmth, a soft vibration, or a gentle pulsing, especially when a treatment is given with the healer’s hands directly on the animal. Being more sensitive than people, animals often respond more quickly to Reiki than people do and positive results can be seen in a relatively short time.

For healthy animals, Reiki helps to maintain the state of health, fostering balance and enhancing peace and overall well-being. For those interested in learning Reiki, giving Reiki treatments to your animal companion heightens mutual awareness, cultivates compassion and deepens the bond between the two of you.

For ill animals, a Reiki treatment assists healing at the deepest levels and is a safe complement to conventional veterinary medicine. Reiki even helps to reduce the side effects of other treatments. Reiki soothes and calms animals who might otherwise be in a state of discomfort.

For dying animals, Reiki is a highly effective, yet gentle way to provide comfort, relieve pain, fear, and anxiety, and to ease the passage from this world. Reiki is very helpful for the human companion as well, offering support during grief and relief from fear, encouraging peace and comfort. Reiki supports everyone involved to complete unfinished matters and experience life transitions with more peace and enhanced illumination.

What To Expect During a Reiki Treatment for Animals

All of our Reiki treatments for animals are done in their natural environment, whether it is in their home, yard, or pasture. This helps to ensure that they are as relaxed as they can be, not having undue stress from traveling. In the event of an in person treatment, it is may be helpful to have the animal isolated to a particular part of the home, yard, or pasture, especially if they are not socialized or accustomed to having human visitors. Often times the animal will gravitate towards the practitioner as the Reiki is given, especially on subsequent visits as he/she becomes more familiar with the practitioner and recognizes the gentleness of the Reiki energy. For those that do not live in the greater Kailua Kona area on the Big Island of Hawaii, we treat animals using Distance Reiki. Whether the treatment is done in person or remotely, animals, like young children, are more sensitive to the Reiki than most adults. Positive results are often observed within a short interval of time.

When giving a Reiki treatment in person, rather than using the hands directly on the animal, the treatment is usually initiated a short distance away. This gives the animal an opportunity to experience the Reiki energy and to explore it on his/her own timing. Because animals are more sensitive to energy than people, they often quickly understand its healing potential.

While treatments will vary from individual to individual, often times an animal might vacillate between moving back and forth from the practitioner before ultimately lying close by. Sometimes he/she may come to rest under the practitioner’s hands even exposing which areas are in need of healing.

Generally after an animal becomes familiar with Reiki, he/she becomes very relaxed and will often fall asleep for at least part of the treatment. We have had animals express their gratitude for a Reiki treatment by gently licking the hands, nuzzling, or making sweet sounds after the treatment is complete.

Whether performed in person or remotely, animals will generally respond to a Reiki treatment shortly after a session or over the following few days, even upwards to a week. It may become apparent that an injury or illness has healed more quickly than expected or that a behavioral challenge has shifted or perhaps released. Long standing challenges may take several treatments to begin to shift. In these cases, it may be wise to schedule regular Reiki treatments over a period of time to facilitate the process of working through and letting go of the issues that need healing. The universal intelligence of Reiki finds the aspects of the animal that are most in need of healing. Just in people, a physical or behavioral challenge may have an emotional root cause. When it is in the best interest of the animal, Reiki can help to resolve and release these issues and return the animal to more vibrant overall balance and well being.
