One of my favorite aspects of living in Hawaii is the abundance of flowers that thrive in the high humidity of a tropical climate. Here are a handful of my favorites to share with you. While the blossoms come and go throughout the year, each bloom is unique, some have a delicious aroma like the red and pink orchid (2nd) that smells like cocoa, the striped white orchid (12th) that smells like vanilla and the purple orchid just above it that smells like grape bubblegum while many others are heavenly scented with varying tones of alluring perfume. Orchids are exquisite in every way, however what some might lack in aroma, they make up for in color like the cosmos hibiscus, the lovely lavender mirage or the sassy seminole pink hibiscus, not to be usurped by the fabulous passion flower as renowned for its fruit as its beauty unlike the true vanilla orchid that is more famous for its delightful beans more than the green orchid that precedes them. This rare blossom (5th) is seen once a year blooming for only a few hours. One thing is for sure when it comes to flowers, they are guaranteed to bring pleasure no matter the color, the size or the scent or lack thereof. One might even say flowers are food for the soul. Enjoy.
