We often say, “Stop to smell the flowers.”
We see flowers every day.
Do we really see them?
Take a moment.
Pause the next time you see a flower.
Make a note of how you feel. Reflect on that.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here is a small collection of flowers that have bloomed in my garden.
Every time one emerges I am inspired to capture its essence.
Now I get to share them with you.
My immediate response was filled with excitement.
“Wow”
I will never forget the day this bloomed.
I took it as a sign that all was as it should be.
“Serenity”
Soft and subtle yet bold and forthright.
“Velvet”
I watched this flower grow and open from a green bud to a beautiful white blossom.
At its apex, it was yellow and white. I marveled at its prime.
“Glorious”
Easter offering.
“Charity”
Boasting a sweet vanilla aroma.
“Luscious”
I was so surprised when this bare leaved orchid burst out in bloom.
“Passion”
This one exploded into a dozen fountains of bright yellow blossoms.
Only able to capture one fountain in a frame, I felt like a child again.
“Hooray”
Blooming the day my mother died, I had never seen her bloom before.
While these usually endure for a few days, she persisted for three weeks.
Fragrant like perfume, my heart was full of gratitude.
“Heaven Scent”
A good morning greeting.
“Enjoy”
Once per year, vanilla orchids bloom for a few hours one time on one day.
“Jewel”
A lone bloomer.
“Bohemian”
A good omen of fruit to come.
“Glee”
The first lily to bloom in my water bowl.
Each spring I am greeted by more.
“Happy”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am reminded of my favorite poet, Mary Oliver’s quote:
“Let me keep company always with those who say,
‘Look!’ and laugh in astonishment, and bow their heads.”
~~~~~
One thing I can always say for sure is
every time I take the time to contemplate a flower,
I always feel better because of it.
Say, “Thank you” to the flowers that bloom for you.
Most importantly, thank yourself for taking the time to notice the gifts that surround you,
they are for YOU!
More reminders from Mary O.:
“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”
“Keep some room in your heart for the unimaginable.”
“You must not ever stop being whimsical. And you must
not, ever, give anyone else the responsibility for your life.”
See, smell, feel, listen and talk to the flowers.
Be present with all of your senses.
Imagine what might happen if you extend such
attention to everything and everyone you meet.
This is taking life in.
