Did you know humans are designed to sort for negative information?
Imagine living in a wild environment with predators in the jungle. One’s senses are fine tuned to pick up signs of danger. The more fine tuned the senses are, the better the chance of survival. If a threat is perceived, the body kicks in to ‘fight or flight’ and within a few minutes the response is determined whether to run, hide, or fight. Within 20 minutes the emergency is likely contained; stress levels lessen and awareness resumes. Imagine if in that wild environment one chose to ignore the danger signs and instead sat daydreaming by a watering hole. An easy meal, you might imagine it would not be long before becoming prey.
There was a time when basic human survival depended on sorting for negative ques. Humans have evolved over thousands of years and have refined these skills to perfection with the acute ability to sort through signals and detect potentially dangerous stimuli. While we are designed to be masters of scanning for negative impulses to keep us safe as a basic survival instinct, we now live in a world where there are not man eating predators. Yet there is a plethora of negative stimulus and rather than any danger being resolved within a few minutes, we are on constant alert.
We are now living at a time when positive thinking
is not dangerous to our survival,
but necessary for our well being.
Modern humans experience a consistent degree of stress with persistently high stress hormone levels which inevitably lead to depression. There is no shortage of information to sort through and the process is constant with no reprieve in sight. The good news is that we can do something to thwart the effects of this negative influx. Studies have shown that positive thinking can lower high cortisol and adrenaline levels (stress hormones). With mental practice, we have a tool that helps us to cope with the amount of negative stimulus that is constantly coming across our horizon be it through the media or otherwise. Positive thoughts can literally wash away the impact of negative ones. Every thought carries a vibration of energy. When coherent vibrational energy merges within the heart and the brain, this coherence creates a healing environment. To understand coherent energy; think of a light bulb where the energy patterns of light are going in all different directions. Compare the strength of a light bulb with that of a laser where the energy patterns of light are focused in one direction only. The laser is incredibly bright and has the capability to not only shine light over vast distance but has the capacity to burn. When the heart and the brain both adopt a similar coherent pattern through the practice of positive thinking, the mind is clearer and sharper. When it is constantly bombarded by negative thoughts, it is dull in contrast much like the light bulb when compared to a laser.
When the heart and the brain are in
harmoniously coherent alignment,
we are capable of healing ourselves and
are more effective at easing the stress of others.
Rather than criticizing yourself for not being more optimistic, understand you are up against your basic physiological survival instincts. Let that be your motivation to discipline your mental and emotional faculties to intentionally bring in positive stimulus. This can have profound effects on your health and on your well being. While it can be challenging at first, the more you practice positive thinking, the easier it becomes and soon you will be a positive thinker and an inspiration to those around you. Our environment has changed dramatically and while its important to maintain awareness its equally as important to understand the threats are not what they once were and the solution is not fight or flight but rather simple right action. Your right action inspired by harmonious thoughts can inspire others towards similar right action; in this way we collectively move away from fear towards love for a more enriching and rewarding experience. Be kind to yourself and understand you are physiologically designed to sort for negative impulses. In a world where this no longer serves your higher good, allow yourself the luxury of a positive thought. With every positive thought, you enhance your well-being and improve quality of life for you and for those around you.
You can’t live
a positive life
with a
negative mind.
