A colleague of mine was affected by rat lung worm disease in mid February. As he scrambled to take care of himself, I found myself increasingly cautious of slugs. With yet another case in the area, I was concerned. Not long after, I began noticing slugs, not just here or there, but seemingly everywhere, on the steps, the railings, the walls, thankfully all on the exterior of the house. I began wearing rubber sandals in to the outdoor shower. Not long later, I traded moonlit and starry skies for the comfort and safety of my indoor shower and spa. Next thing I knew, slugs were showing up randomly on the bathroom floor, on the walls, on the ceiling and even in the tub. Suddenly I felt there was no safe place. I found them in the kitchen, in the cat bowl and on the front deck. I began wearing my sandals indoors too. I couldn’t help but wonder where they had suddenly come from? It was as if they materialized from no-where to now-here.
This persisted for a month when suddenly corona-virus came on the radar and I took my attention from the slugs to the virus. As the days passed, I became increasingly attentive to the developments of the virus. While I continued my usual routine, next thing I knew I was showering outdoors again, granted I was wearing my shoes. Having nearly forgotten about the slugs, they disappeared as quickly as they had appeared. One might expect there was a sudden change in weather in the way of a dry spell. Far from the case, it remained very wet. I couldn’t help to notice that as I took my attention from the slugs to the virus, the slugs virtually disappeared.
I wondered if shifting my attention might help with the virus too. The effects of the April 4th and 5th global healing meditation reflects this very phenomena coinciding with a demonstrative rise in the Schumann Resonance, a measurement of the Earth’s geomagnetic field. Energy flows where attention goes. As the entire world is focusing on the virus, it seems to be ever increasing. Feeling fear everywhere, I pulled back my reigns and got in touch with a higher perspective. I had seen the power of thought in action. Perhaps I could deliberately apply thought to divert attention and minimize, if nothing else, the angst I was feeling inside. I have focused on more uplifting causes, have been cultivating creative projects, offering community support, creating fellowship through social media, connecting with old friends, and strengthening my mind and body while taking time to contemplate the magnificence of nature and the imperfect perfection of everything. The more I focus on positive action, the more peace, resilience and stamina I have and the more comfortable I am to wade through the changing tides.
Keeping balance during unstable uncertain times can be a challenge for anyone. As we are being directed to isolate, may we all stay connected to loved ones and to our community. Make a plan for enhancements in your life. Ask yourself important questions. Take this time for reflection. Start working on aspects of yourself you would like to improve. Be productive. There is no better time for self development than now. May you seek the positive news and anticipate a hopeful future despite the current conditions. We might explore on-line support groups. We are being challenged to think outside of the box, to shift our awareness, to find a different perspective. We are in the midst of change. Change is the only certainty of life. Everything is subject to change. While it can and often is uncomfortable, change is a part of life, change is life itself. We are constantly changing, adapting, growing, aging, learning, evolving, whether we are conscious of it or not, change is inevitable. I have always felt that adaptability is the best measure of intelligence; adaptability determines if a species will survive or thrive. May we all be graced with peace and tap in to our inner genius and adapt to our changing environment.
It is much easier to allow yourself to BE in the moment,
to allow the winds of change to move you in to the future
rather than to tightly hold on to a past that no longer persists.
